CIVICUS: World Alliance for Citizen
Participation is an international alliance of members and partners constituting
an influential network of organizations at local, national, regional and
international levels, spanning the spectrum of civil society. CIVICUS seeks to
amplify the voices and opinions of ordinary people, giving expression to the
enormous creative energy of the burgeoning civil society sector.
Objectives of the Civil Society Innovation Initiative
CIVICUS and Counterpart International are collaborating on the establishment of innovative mechanisms to supportcivil society on a regional level. Specifically, the project aims to establish six regional civil society hubs to improve the effectiveness and viability of civil society initiatives.
Stemming from the Africa hub incubators’ initial desire to conduct a continent-wide influence mapping and analysis of civil society organizations and activities, WE is the latest iteration of that idea, which will be implemented with greater focus around specific themes with relevant activities as part of the research. For start-up, the WE services will focus on transparency and accountability and human rights to test how the model works. In the future, the same model will be applied to different themes that may include climate change and food security, SDG16, and justice and impunity. Through WE-Engage, the Africa Hub will begin building backbone of Africa Hub by systemizing information.
The CSII Africa Hub is currently seeking a research consultant to lead a continent-wide mapping exercise of organizations, networks and individuals working around the themes of transparency and accountability and human rights. The consultant will be responsible for the creation of an assessment and organizational directory on transparency and accountability and one on human rights. The directory will begin with current partners and their networks and expand to ensure all countries in Africa are represented. This directory will be built into a comprehensive, interactive mapping database and is a crucial piece of the WE-Engage service. The main deliverable will be submitted in the form of an electronic report with a framework to build into the mapping database.
